"Psssttt, psssttt, psssttt..." Bast held her pointer finger out to the scared cat, determined to build his trust. 
 
"You know, you don't have to save every stray you see." he said with one eyebrow raised. 
 
"I don't," she replied, still fixated on gaining the cat's trust. "I don't save anyone. I simply offer love and protection to those that have been overlooked." And with that, the cat came over and began to rub against her legs and allowed her to pick him up. 
 
"Let's go home," she whispered to him as he began to purr, "the others can't wait to meet you."
